We are looking for an energetic and motivated Youth Worker who can support young people transitioning safely between primary and high school.

Newtown Neighbourhood Centre (NNC) are looking for an energetic and motivated Youth Worker. This exciting role offers flexibility for the right person, working within our dynamic team in their approach to supporting young people to transition safely between primary and high school. We want someone who aligns and aspires to working in our vibrant community that is Newtown, advocating for our young people and their families, using proven strategies/models, along with great intuition.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The CST Youth Worker is a 12month part-time (3 days per week) position and will be supported within a small but proactive team. They will play a key role in planning and coordinating the NNC Peer Bridge Program. The Youth Worker will focus on supporting students as they transition from primary to high school. This will include:

  • Building working relationships with the student welfare teams at several local public schools.
  • Maintaining correspondence with all partnering stakeholders.
  • Organising and facilitating group meetings with parents/carers of participating students.
  • Research, plan and book facilitators of program workshops and excursions.
  • Advocate for students in need of support within their new school environment.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

  • Above award conditions (NNC provides a 35 hour full time working week) and pay, plus salary packing, additional leave and flexitime.
  • Classified at SCHADS Level 5.

Requirements

Commitment to the values of Newtown Neighbourhood Centre. Program planning, development and project management experience. Demonstrated understanding of early intervention principles. Experience in running mentoring programs. Experience working with schools. Experience in presenting to various stakeholders. Skills in developing collaborative and impactful partnerships with relevant service providers. Relevant qualifications in youth work or a similar field or equivalent experience. Drivers license essential. Desirable Experience working with volunteers and students.
